If you are looking for a good 3D printer at an affordable price, the Wanhao Duplicator i3 might be the right choice for you.
Wanhao, a Chinese 3D printer brand, has been successful in the past few years with for example the Duplicator 4s and Duplicator 5s, 2 printers in the business segment.
With the i3, Wanhao seems to be aiming at the budget and consumer markets.
The Duplicator i3 is not a new printer; the model is based on the very popular Reprap Prusa i3.
The prusa i3 is available in different types and there are multiple brands with a i3 version. However, Wanhao is the only manufacturer that supplies it completely assembled. Usually, the Prusa models are only available as a construction kit.
The Duplicator i3 is a strong and robust device, with a case made out of metal, which prevents damage to the device. This is a feature that almost all Wanhao printers share.
The Wanhao Duplicator i3 has a single extruder, which means that the printer can handle 1 filament at a time. The printer also has a Heated bed, which allows for printing with ABS filament.
The Wanhao Duplicator i3 prints with an accuracy of 100 micron (0.1 mm layer), which is currently a regular printing quality.
Some printers achieve an accuracy of up to 10 or 20 micron (for example its big brother, the Duplicator 5s). However, for most printing jobs, a layer thickness of 0.1 mm is more than enough.
A big advantage of the i3 is that this is an open source printer. This means that you are not stuck with a specific type of slicer software.
The printer is by default suitable for for example Cura, Ultimaker's slicer program that is available for free (one of the easiest slicer softwares to work with).
Another additional advantage of this printer is the filament. You do not have to buy a special (often more expensive) type of filament. This is something we see quite often in the 3D printer budget category.
Who can use this printer?
We recommend it especially for private persons and hobbyists. This printer is less suitable for businesses, schools, and (young) children.
