The Ultimaker 3, the latest model of the Dutch Ultimaker. With a unique dual extrusion system, high reliability, and even more possibilities than ever before.
The new Ultimaker 3 is the next generation in desktop 3D printing. This machine offers the professional unlimited possibilities, without compromising on reliability or user-friendliness.
5 years of Ultimaker
Ultimaker has been around for 5 years now, and during this time, a lot has changed, and the business has grown into leading company when it comes to desktop 3D printers. A combination of excellent hardware, innovative software, and a huge community surrounding the brand has turned them into a very reliable partner, for everyone who wants to start working with rapid prototyping. The business from Geldermalsen has also worked hard on a large distribution network, which makes sure that service and availability will be at their highest levels.
Even more with Dual Extrusion
A major limitation of the desktop 3D printers was that up until now, they only had a single print head. 95% of the models could be printed with this, but not all of them. There were some models available with dual print heads, but those were not really that reliable.
A new, reliable system should be developed, and that is what Ultimaker did. A special print head for 'building materials', and a special head for 'support materials', that do not interfere with each other, just like industrial manufacturers have been doing for a long time. With this new configuration, it is easy to make even the most difficult 3D prints. By using water soluble support materials, every complex shape will turn out great.
Look and feel
When it comes to design and machine build, the device looks almost the same as the previous model. The build surface of 21.5 x x21.5 x 20 cm is just a little smaller, but big enough to print most objects with. Prints can easily be printed in multiple parts, which can be assembled later. If you still do not have enough space, the Ultimaker 3 Extended might be a better choice.
The Ultimaker 3 now has semi automatic calibration, and the connectivity has improved a lot. It is now possible to work with a USB stick, the 3D printer can be connected to a network, and it is possible to connect with it through WiFi. And your prints can be traced via the built-in camera.
With the new modular print heads, the possibilities when it comes to materials have also increased. Both the print head and the heated bed can handle temperatures that are a bit higher, which means that printing with for example polycarbonate is also possible now.
Besides PLA, ABS, PETG, Nylon, and some flexible filaments, it is also possible to work with specially designed support materials, such as PVA, HIPS, and PolySupport. The possibilities are endless, and even the most complex prints are not a problem.
Since the new print heads are modular and can be changed easily, it is possible to purchase a separate head for each type of material. The print heads will get jammed less often, and the reliability will increase.
If you purchase the Ultimaker 3, the renewed Cura 2 will be provided for free. Cura is Ultimaker's own open source-software.
The software is currently one of the best-known and most-used types of slicer software and is very user-friendly. In the latest version, focus is more on working in the cloud, by using the new networking possibilities, and remote monitoring of your prints. The software can of course be used on Windows, Linux, and Mac.
Just like the Ultimaker 2, the new Ultimaker 3 is an almost silent 3D printer, which can be used in or near an office environment. Other 3D printers often make a lot of noise, but the Ultimaker 3 only produces 50 db.
